Melonie Knight explores how the body is situated within an environment. Her sensuous works invite the viewer to ruminate on often-overlooked objects like bedsheets, bathtub water, and African Black soap. These experiential interactions between body and object are explorations into what Knight terms “home-ness.” Her multi-media approach to art — from audio to painting to installation — allows her to explore multiple aspects of being, as well as the experience and exploitation of Black women.

Melonie Knight’s work appears in Retro/Intro.
